Mountain Biking Lake District (Mountain Scramble)

Edge 2 Edge

Love the smooth of road biking and the rough of the mountains?  Our Edge 2 Edge mountain scramble and road biking challenge event could be just for you.  This challenge combines two of the Lake Districts finest scrambles on Helvellyn and Blencathra with over 1500m ascent, and links them with 42km of scenic road biking.

The route:

  • Duration:             11-14.5 Hours
  • Distance:             58.5 Km
    • On foot:               16.5 Km
    • On bike:               42 Km

The challenge starts and finishes at the Distant Horizons estate and begins with an early morning ride along Ullswater, meaning you virtually get the roads to yourselves.  Then under the watchful eye of our guides you will ascend your first airy scramble on Striding or Swirral Edge before reaching England’s 2nd highest mountain, Helvellyn.  Once on the other side you continue on your bikes along scenic roads to your next mountain challenge on Blencathra and scale Sharp Edge.  Once you've concurred your second scramble in one day it's time to get back on the bikes and head home, once more weaving through the stunning Lake District landscape.

We invite people to bring their own bikes for personal comfort however we can arrange hybrid bike hire at an additional cost.

Due to the lengthy duration of the event we advise people to stay in the local area the night before and after, and for those looking for a self-catering option we have our own lodge available for private hire.  Our Lakeland Lodge provides basic but comfortable communal accommodation for up to 12 people.  For groups interested in alternative accommodation we can source a variety of options.
