Distant Horizons alongside Walking With The Wounded on the charities inaugural Cumbrian Challenge

On the 18th May despite torrential rain nearly 400 people took part in the Cumbrian Challenge in aid of charity for Walking With The Wounded, with the support of Distant Horizons.  In teams of 4 they had set themselves the challenge of either walking the ‘Tough’ or ‘Tougher’ route, both covering grueling terrain over  Helvellyn and the mountains and valleys round-a-bout.  The teams set off at 8am with completion times ranging from mid-day to 7pm.  No matter how long they took it was the massive effort involved that mattered and the money raised for a good cause.   It was a great success with £153,000 raised for the charity so far.  At the end of the day there was a fantastic BBQ to feast upon and Tirril Brewery supplied the drink.  Once the food had gone down awards were handed out for the Fastest Team, Best Team Name and for the team raising the most money.   Once the thanks and congratulations were out the way the rest of the evening continued to the sound of the local Pooley Bridge band the ‘Inhalers’.  Despite doing an incredible mountain walk, up to 33km, people managed to remain on their feet to dance the night away.  All in all a fantastic day.
