Distant Horizons took 30 volunteers from all over Cumbria for a day on the lake on Sunday to pick up some of the litter on the shores of Ullswater. We managed several miles of shore and an astounding mound of rubbish collected... and a bed frame... and a boat!
With support from Eden Valley Council and The National Park, We provided our kind volunteers with the usual range of superb equipment and some lunch and refreshments to keep them energised through the day. The weather was perfect with clear blue skies and unseasonably warm weather to give everyone a lovely day out.
Sarah, one of our volunteers has emailed us today: Hello Distant Horizons - That was a fantastic day out! - just wanted to say thank you for arranging such a well organised event. It really couldn't have been better. Jason and you all did such a great job and it really was a pleasure to be out on such a perfect day. Thank you - it was a very professionally run session, with a friendly crowd and such a good lunch! Please let us know if you're doing another - Greg wants to come next time!
We would like to thank all our volunteers for giving up their Sundays, the Carlisle Canoe Club for their time and support, the National Park for their support (thanks Graham!), Eden Valley Council for the equipment to help us undertake the pick. The success of this event and the volume of rubbish we collected means we may do another one of these in the not too distant future: if you would like to be involved just email us on firstname.lastname@example.orgTweet
