| The Lake District has an abundance of spectacular rock formations that present great challenges for the scrambler. If you have an interest to ascend mountains perhaps off the beaten track on more challenging routes without moving strictly into the realms of rock climbing then you are in prime scrambling territory. Being able to negotiate ridges, gentle buttresses and gullies in safety opens a whole new world to many people who have only hillwalked by traditional routes in the past. Scrambling is moving over terrain efficiently and safely using at times minimal equipment and techniques to make progress. Generally the routes are easier than strict rock climbs but still having different grades relative to their severity. Many scrambles can be very exposed so a really good head for heights is essential.
